There is so much to do on our incredible island that we want to encourage you to stay at least two nights, if not longer so you'll have a better opportunity to explore. So, we've decided to take a financial hit and offer, for the first time in our 9 year history, summer discounts! We are giving 20% off on your 2nd night and 30% on the third. That's a significent amount, so be sure to see the website for details.
It's still winter on Mt. Washington where the season has been extended because there is still (today is April 4!) over 600cm of great snow for you skiiers. Down here by the sea it is spring with lots of flowers and new life all around. Eagles, black tail deer, river otters living at our beach, all sorts of birds and plenty of seals too all right here within sight of the B&B.
Nature here can be overwhelming because there is just soooo much of it. There are vast tracts of forest so hike and explore. Great rivers to fish or kayak or walk along. We frequently take Tip and Pocos (our dogs) to the river for swimming as a change from the beach! Pocos just learned to swim about two weeks ago. Even though the beach is right at our home its fun to watch our retrievers hustle to chase down thrown balls in a river current. Besides, they both love it. For me though, the beach is the IT and always will be. Some days we have pretty good size waves, other times the sea can look angry with white caps and choppiness. Then the wind dies down and it is flat and calm and warm. It is mesmerizing. This season there are an especially large number of different star fish. Some orange others purple. The beach here still has lots of gooey ducks, aka spitting clams, too.
Local festivals are looking great too. The Hornby Island Blues festival is coming in May. Vancouver Island Music Fest will run July 8-10. Headliners this year include David Crosby and Randy (Short People) Newman. The Filberg Festival and Comox Nautical Days both promise to be great fun and better than ever.
We are busy with spring planting and lots of yardwork. So please call us with a reservation so we can take a break!
That's about it for now. I'll do my darndest not to take so long between blogs. Let us hear from you if there are questions about our B&B or any of the events or you're curious about the dogs. As our grand children say, "whatever floats your boat".
By for now,
Walter
